When Cassie wakes back up, she is dazed, but also very surprised to see the cage still holding in Theus.
“You’re still in there,” she says quietly. “Aren’t you magical?” She sits up from where she had passed out on the floor.
“My magic works with life,” he says. “There is nothing living in this world but you and me.”
“In this world of illusion, maybe,” Cassie says. She gets up slowly, bones aching, and she’s not sure if the pain is real or dreamed. “But we’re both getting out of here.”
He watches as she takes a slow step toward the stained glass window. Each one is a scene. There is a man with a bow and arrow in one of them, another shows a woman holding grain, and yet another a large lion with a fiery mane.
“Don’t do this,” Theus says. “If you care at all about those you left behind, if you have a shred of righteousness, don’t do this.”

Cassie wakes up in the laundromat with a sharp inhale. Her jacket tumbles clean of spilled champagne in the washing machine beneath her, a steady rhythm that had lulled her to sleep. The laundromat is bathed in a soft, yellow light. It’s dark beyond the ceiling-to-floor windows, and the place is empty, save for her and Phil. Her breaths come in shallow. “No,” she says, panicking now, looking for a way out. “No, no, no, no! I’m not alright! I’m still dreaming!”
“You’re what?” Phil says. He moves closer to her, but stops dead in his place when she flinches violently back. “Cassie, you’re not dreaming, this is real.”
“No, you’re not rea

The third sage came for Cassie long after her tears had dried. He came to escort her back to the Origin Master, and though she really, really, never ever wanted to ever see that man ever again, she went. At this point, what else could she do? The man was short and silent, and the only word he spoke came only at Cassie's prompting: Wrench.
“Welcome back, Cassie,” the Origin Master said. He still remained shrouded in shadows, but the barest hint of glowing orbs encircled blue robes. “After much deliberation, I’ve decided that you’ve reached a point where you can ask me anything.”
“Anything?” Cassie said cautiously.
Cassie mulled over it, rolling questions around her mind like rolling a mint on your tongue. She still had so many questions, she wasn’t even sure how to phrase them.
Cassie took a deep breath. "What's going to happen to the people I left behind?"
"I suppose that's up to them, really."
